This extensive renovation transformed a homeless shelter in a historic church into a Housing Navigation Center. This new center offers services to help clients develop pathways to permanent housing, income, improved healthcare and stability. The renovation included modernization of the existing shelter spaces, the addition of handicap accessibility and new spaces for medical and behavioral health services, employment specialists and a job developer. Several small “buildings within a building” structures to be used as offices, a conference room and staff areas were constructed within the former nave and sanctuary. The historic architectural elements and artworks were restored and preserved, and the entire building was updated to be energy efficient.
