CHR Health & Wellness

Community Health Resources (CHR) is a non-profit organization providing a range of behavioral healthcare and human services to the residents of Central and Eastern Connecticut, including outpatient care and support required by adults with severe mental illness and/or substance abuse, as well as children and their families suffering from mental illness or abuse.

The Health and Wellness Center is CHR’s flagship office.  PBBA worked with CHR to design a building that would enhance the quality of the community and be consistent with the high quality of services provided within. The building provides a nurturing and calming environment for CHR consumers and an efficient and pleasant work space for CHR staff.

The primary function of individual and group therapy is complimented with the ancillary functions of a primary care provider and a pharmacy. Two check-in areas with complimentary waiting rooms on the first floor provide separate spaces for adults and children. The public spaces of the upper floors are organized around central lobbies containing greeting desks and smaller waiting areas. Each floor has a distinct color scheme of calming contemporary hues that distinguish between adult services on the second floor and child services on the third floor.

Work stations are provided in several group staff areas and individual offices on all floors. Each floor has a kitchen and copy, file and storage rooms for staff convenience. On the upper floors, small roof gardens and terraces provide private outdoor areas for staff.  The third floor houses a large lunch room and a training room with space to gather all CHR staff.
