This historic building was built for Abby Salisbury around 1835 on land she purchased from her next door neighbor, her son-in-law Theodore Dwight Woolsey. Later residents made alterations and additions to the house. They included Henry White, prominent real estate lawyer, in 1867, Thomas G. Bennett, president of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, in 1889 and Elford Parry Trowbridge, president of the Montowese Brick Company in 1905. Yale University purchased and remodeled the house in 1935. Local architect Douglass Orr removed major decorative elements and added commercial storefront bays. Our firm has been hired to restore the remaining historic elements while upgrading the building’s handicap accessibility and emergency egress pathways.
