A new home for Columbus House, founded in 1984 as one of the first non-profit emergency shelters for homeless single adults in the country. The new facility includes the renovation of an existing two story building and a new three story addition. Included are emergency shelter beds for 30 single adults, longer stay beds for 51, and transitional housing for 20.
Ancillary facilities include bathrooms, dining rooms & kitchen and offices for case management and administrative offices of Columbus House, Inc. The exterior design includes residential scale materials and features in order to project
a home-like and welcoming image for the residents. In 2002, Columbus House was the recipient of the AIA Connecticut Design Award for Architecture: The Encompassing Art. |
